KEDUNG KAYANG - BOROBUDUR - CHICKEN CHURCH - MENDUT
The driver picks you up at 07.00 am and drives direct to Kedung Kayang. Kedung Kayang consists of two words “Kedung means waterfall” and “Kayang means sky”. So Kedung Kayang means “Sky Waterfall”. The origin of the name Kedung Kayang is said to have been obtained from the masters who live around the waterfall area. They are Empu Panggung, Empu Putut, and Empu Khalik. In ancient times, they often held meetings at that location. They believe that the Pabelan River provides blessings for local residents. Even though the river flows mostly from Mount Merbabu and Mount Merapi, they and the local people believe that the river will not drain hot lava. The masters and the surrounding community believe that the Kedung Kayang Waterfall is "awaited" by Kyai Gadung Melati and Nyai Widari Welas Asih. Kedung Kayang is located right in the middle of the Magelang-Boyolali pass and is located in the SSB (Solo-Selo-Borobudur) tourist route area. The location is located just north of the Ketep Pass tourist attraction. Physically, this natural waterfall is 39 meters high with an 80 degree slope. The waterfall flow is quite heavy. The river is quite clear. When finished with the waterfall, proceed to Borobudur Temple.
The Borobudur Temple Compounds consists of three monuments: namely the Borobudur Temple and two smaller temples situatued to the east on a straight axis to Borobudur. The two temples are Mendut Temple, whose depiction of Buddha is represented by a formidable monolith accompanied by two Bodhisattvas, and Pawon Temple, a smaller temple whose inner space does not reveal which deity might have been the object of worship. Those three monuments represent phases in the attainment of Nirvana. Borobudur Temple is located in Kedu Valley, 86 km from Surakarta and 40 km from Yogyakarta. Two twin volcanoes and rivers flank the temple. It’s located in an elevated region. In the 20th century, two other Buddhist temples were discovered while the temple was being restored to its former glory. They are located aligned to Borobudur Temple; it is believed that these temples shared a ritual relationship.
Next destination, we visit Chicken Church. Gereja Ayam is the common nickname for an unusually shaped church in the area of Magelang in Central Java, Indonesia. The nickname, which translates to "chicken church" in English, arose because the structure's shape resembles a hen to most onlookers, although the builder intended it to be the shape of a dove. The building was erected during the 1990s by Daniel Alamsjah, who claimed to have been inspired by God to build a prayer house through a dream he had in 1989. Alamsjah is Christian, but envisioned Gereja Ayam as a place to welcome followers of any religion for prayer or meditation.
On the way back, stop by Mendut
Temple. It is located in Mendut village, Mungkid sub district, Magelang
regency, about 8 km before Borobudur temple. Mendut Temple is a Buddhist temple
which was built by Indra king as a first king of Syailendra dynasty in 824 ADS,
it was stated that the Indra king has built a sacred building called
“venunavayang” which means bamboo forest. If this is true, then certainly
Mendut temple was built in the 8th century AD. This means this temple earlier
than Borobudur Temple, which was built by Samaratungga king, Wangsa Syailendra
in 850 M. After finished with Mendut, drop you back hotel in Yogyakarta. Tour
ends.
