TOUR DESCRIPTION:

Our driver picks you up at 07.00 am and drives direct to Borobudur temple. It consists of three monuments: namely the Borobudur Temple and two smaller temples situatued to the east on a straight axis to Borobudur. The two temples are Mendut Temple, whose depiction of Buddha is represented by a formidable monolith accompanied by two Bodhisattvas, and Pawon Temple, a smaller temple whose inner space does not reveal which deity might have been the object of worship. In Borobudur temple, you have two hours to explore it and enjoy the beautiful reliefs as well as statues.

The next destination, our driver will take you to visit chicken Church or Gereja Ayam.  Gereja Ayam is the common nickname for an unusually shaped church in the area of Magelang in Central Java, Indonesia. The nickname, which translates to "chicken church" in English, arose becauhise the structure's shape resembles a hen to most onlookers, although the builder intended it to be the shape of a dove. The building was erected during the 1990s by Daniel Alamsjah, who claimed to have been inspired by God to build a prayer house through a dream he had in 1989. Alamsjah is Christian, but envisioned Gereja Ayam as a place to welcome followers of any religion to pray or meditate.

After visiting Chicken Church, proceed to Mendut Temple. It is located in Mendut village, Mungkid sub district, Magelang regency, about 8 km before Borobudur temple. Mendut Temple is a Buddhist temple which was built by Indra king as a first king of Syailendra dynasty in 824 ADS, it was stated that the Indra king has built a sacred building called “venunavayang” which means bamboo forest. If this is true, then certainly Mendut temple was built in the 8th century AD. This means this temple earlier than Borobudur Temple, which was built by Samaratungga king, Wangsa Syailendra in 850 M. You need about 30 – 45 minutes to look around the temple. After you are finished with Mendut, the driver will drop you off hotel in Yogyakarta. Tour ends.
